Students stage charity event for Ellie-Louise

STUDENTS at Havering College held a fundraising day to support the aftercare of a Romford schoolgirl who has undergone a life changing operation in America.

Ellie-Louise Sudbury, nine, who has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, recently went to America for an operation to help her to walk.

The Foundation Skills students, who have learning disabilities or difficulties, ran a mini-fete at the Quarles Campus in Harold Hill raising £60 which will help Ellie-Louise’s family pay for her ongoing care and a return trip to doctors in America.

Her mum, Siobhan said: “Ellie-Louise is now back at home after her operation in America and is having intensive therapy. She is walking with a frame and using crutches indoors at home. She is doing so well and is very happy.

“She’s just had her school sports day. Last year she was in her wheelchair and this year she was standing tall with a big smile on her face. She did the egg and spoon race using her walking frame and came last, but only just. It was a fantastic achievement.

“We are really grateful to the Foundation Skills students of Havering College and everyone who helps raise funds for Ellie-Louise as the doctors in America want to see her again next year.”

Curriculum Manager for Foundation Skills Sylvia Smith said: “The students had a fantastic time running various stalls including tombola. This is the latest in a series of fundraising events they have held for Ellie-Louise.”
