NEW START is a Havering College programme which offers support to employers faced with having to make redundancies.
The college has been awarded funding to improve the skills of the jobseekers and help them get back into work more quickly.
New Start offers workers under notice of redundancy and the unemployed a minimum of nine hours of free skills training.
We are now encouraging more people to sign up for the Havering
College NewStart programme through which they will receive a
personalised package of careers advice, help with finding the right job
and guidance on CV writing, job applications and industry
qualifications.
The training is designed to improve the skills of jobseekers and help them move back into work more quickly.
New Start will support employers making job cuts through a number of bespoke packages helping people gain possible new skills or to search for new job opportunities.
The support package for the employer can last up for up to eight weeks from the given date of the redundancy notice or letter.
The support service to employers is free of charge and could consist of:
- Leadership, Management and Action Planning
- Support to HR departments during the difficult redundancy period.
- Employability skills such as CV Writing, Job Search and Interview Techniques, Communication, Team Working and Problem Solving
- Skills for Life and Work such as literacy, Numeracy and ICT in the workplace
It is suggested employers release staff for their initial training in the last week of their redundancy notice. Following that the college will continue to work with these clients offering up to and over 75 hours worth of re-skilling in a specific sector, depending on the individual.
The Havering College New Start team is on stand-by to go into any company or organisation and present the redundancy support package.
